Hemenway & Barnes Names Brad Bedingfield and Patrick Moore Partners in the Firm

Brad has over a decade of private practice with national firms and previously worked as a tax law specialist with the Exempt Organizations Division of the IRS. Brad assists private foundations and public charities with navigating complex tax regulations and procedures, including receipt and disposition of complex charitable gifts and participation in innovative forms of impactful philanthropy. He also advises private clients on securing their long-term goals related to preserving and protecting their wealth and executing their philanthropic endeavors. Brad was recognized as a Notable Practitioner assisting US and international high net worth families with philanthropy and trusts and estates planning in Chamber’s 2018 High Net Worth guide.

A Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), Brad is also Co-Chair of the Public Policy Committees for the Boston Bar Association’s Tax Exempt Organizations Section and Trusts and Estates Section. He frequently speaks and writes on charitable giving, tax law, nonprofit governance, and the role of nonprofits in effecting policy change. Prior to practicing law, Brad was in academia and has a doctorate in English language and literature.

Pat is a litigator with a unique perspective on the mechanics of federal and state government. A former attorney in the White House and Massachusetts Governor’s Office, Pat is an experienced advocate and counselor on sensitive issues of public importance. He concentrates his practice in complex business, administrative, land use, and appellate litigation. He also counsels clients on election law and campaign finance issues.

Before joining Hemenway & Barnes, Pat was an Associate Counsel and Advisor for Presidential Personnel at the White House, in the administration of President Barack Obama. He also served in state government as Deputy Counsel for Massachusetts Governors Deval L. Patrick and Charles D. Baker. Pat is Co-Chair of the Boston Bar Association’s Government Lawyers Forum and is a member of the boards of the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy at Boston College Law School and Common Cause of Massachusetts. He also teaches at Boston College Law School, where he is an adjunct professor. He frequently speaks and writes on appellate law, administrative law, and campaign finance law.
