Hemenway & Barnes Names Dennis Delaney and Charles Platt Practice Chairs
Hemenway & Barnes LLP has announced the appointment of new practice chairs for its Private Client and Family Office Services Groups. Dennis Delaney will lead the Family Office Services Group and Charles Platt will lead the Private Client Group, effective immediately.
“Dennis and Charlie have demonstrated great leadership within the firm, a collaborative spirit, and above all a commitment to providing the highest quality of expertise to clients,” said Nancy Gardiner, Managing Partner of Hemenway & Barnes. “We look forward to continuing to meet the evolving needs of our clients under their leadership.”
Dennis Delaney previously served as chair of the Private Client Group for eight years. In his new role as chair of the Family Office Services Group, he will lead a growing team of highly skilled professionals in establishing and managing clients’ family offices. This work includes investment management and oversight, strategies for active family philanthropy, coordinated estate and tax planning, and assisting with daily details of life such as household employees, legal/tax reporting and compliance, budgeting, wealth education of children, and a myriad of other personal issues that high net worth families face.
Delaney brings more than 25 years of experience serving high net worth clients as a family wealth advisor, personal trustee, executor, and trusted advisor. His expertise also includes complex estate planning, long-term charitable giving programs, tax matters and promoting family harmony through thoughtful planning. Clients appreciate his ability to present complex investment, tax and legal issues in a relatable way. He frequently works with clients for many years and through multiple generations, serving as their trustee, wealth manager and family advisor.
Charlie Platt has been a partner in the Private Client Group for nearly 10 years and succeeds Delaney as chair. Recognized as a leader in estate and tax planning, the Private Client Group has been a cornerstone practice of the firm since its early days. Platt will continue to build on the firm’s reputation as trusted partners to individuals and families.
Platt works with individuals and families on their personal planning and wealth management needs, including estate and charitable planning, probate and trust administration, and serving as a trustee. With an eye toward the efficient transfer and preservation of wealth, he focuses on estate, gift, generation-skipping, and income taxes. Before joining Hemenway & Barnes, Charlie spent seven years working at a large New York law firm and frequently works with families in both New York and Massachusetts.
